$903,000.00 jury verdict for hand injuries

When a hospital's motorized slide retrieval machine started up on its own, a file clerk's hand became caught inside, causing partial amputation of one finger and a crushing-type injury to another.

Timothy J. Brunnock, Esq., demonstrated to an Essex County jury that the injuries were caused by the company that manufactured and serviced the machine, and that the injuries the woman sustained were permanent in nature. The jury awarded a total of $903,000, as reported in The Star Ledger and The New Jersey Law Journal.

"We were able to show the jury just how devastating these injuries were to a young, single working woman," Mr. Brunnock said, notwithstanding the manufacturing company's contention that it was "just a broken finger.

$475,000.00 settlement during trial

A woman seriously injured in a January 1991 motor vehicle accident in New York City turned to Brunnock & Fleming for help in 1998.

Her case had been dormant in the New York court system for over six years, when Brian P. Fleming and Michele Mordkoff took over the case from her former attorney.

The woman sustained injuries resulting in multiple back surgeries, but the insurance company for the negligent driver denied responsibility, claiming that a subsequent accident was the cause of her injuries. Based on this contention, the insurance company refused to make an offer of settlement.

Brian and Michele tried the case before a Brooklyn, New York jury. The case settled after four days of trial for $475,000.00.
